Once you have made your beer, lager or cider, it's time to bottle it. If you use beer bottles, you will need to cap them with crown caps and need a capper to crimp the crown caps to the bottle.
Crown caps are so called because the look like a crown. This design allows them to sit on top of the bottle neck and for the bottle capper to squeeze the pleats securing the cap to the bottle and making an air tight seal so that you can carbonate your beer, lager and cider.
Crown caps come in 2 main sizes - 26mm which fit most beer bottles and 29mm which fit sparkling wine and champagne bottles which are sometimes used for Belgian beers.

Fitting a crown cap to a beer bottle is easy. Once you have filled your bottle, place the crown cap on top of the bottle. Take the capper and align the bell with the top of the cap, lower the levers so that the semi-circles line up with the bottle neck and then push the handles down to their maximum. Do not be tempted to use excess force as this will not crimp the crown caps more. If you feel you need to have a tighter crimp, simply raise the handles, turn the bottle 90° and crimp the cap again.
