Stout and Porter Beer Kits

Both stouts and porters are black beers with lots of coffee, dark chocolate and liquorice aromas due to the addition of heavily roasted barley.

There is not much difference between a stout and a porter.  Porters use a malted barley that is heavily roasted which creates a chocolatey character and stouts use non malted barley that is again heavily roasted which tends to create a strong coffee aroma.  This slight difference makes a big difference in the finished beer, with the stout having slightly more mouthfeel and body.

Stout and porter beers tend to be strong in flavour and strong in alcohol too.  These strong flavours can be merged with lactose to make a delicious milk stout or have cocoa nibs added to really enrich the chocolate flavours. 

Stout and Porter beer kits are easy to brew and will generally make 40 pints of great tasting beer that's ready to drink in just a few weeks.  Imperial Stout kits are better if matured in the bottle for at least 6 months.
