When brewing, the right temperature is key to getting the perfect conditions.  Whether you are mashing grain or checking the temperature before pitching yeast, you need to check the temperature of your beer or wine.

Too low a temperature and most yeast will just go into a dormant phase.  Too high a temperature and you can kill the yeast.

When brewing, keep your wine or beer at the right temperature for brewing (usually 18-22°C) is necessary to get a full fermentation with no unwanted off flavours. Constant monitoring of the temperature is essential so you will need a thermometer.

As it gets into the cooler months, it can be difficult to keep your brew at a constant temperature. As it gets colder you may find the need to warm the fermenting beer or wine by using a heat pad or a brew belt. These can help regulate the temperature of the brew when it's too cold.
